Fractured A Metercarpel. Having Pain And Swelling. Suggest
Hi.... I fractured a metercarpel in my base of my hand/wrist in Mid March... i had my pot off in Mid April and the bone had some what recovered.... all sweling had gone but still could feel a bit of a bump which my hand specailist said was the norm.
over the last 10 days my hand where the bump was has swollen back up and is casusing me slight discomfort, aching and abit soare. I dont really want to go back to the hospital as I fly out to Lanzarote in the next couple of weeks and am scared that the Hospital put a pot on it again! i am able to work, and write with this but is just causing me some discomfort.
could you please advise me????
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM. Generally, the metacarpal fractures do not heal in exact normal alignment with non surgical management producing some amount of angulation, which you are feeling as bump. A certain amount of swelling, pain and discomfort will occur at the fractured site as a part of the healing process and is commonly seen after movements at that level. So i feel this as a normal phenomenon. Hope this helps
