Found Painful Hard Lump Under Jaw. Spreading To Face, Down Neck, Into Ear. Lips Are Numb

I just found a small, very hard lump under my jaw by my ear. Have not noticed it before now. I began noticing it because of an intense pain that started in that area and rapidly began to spread to my face, down my neck, and into my ear. My lips are numb as well as the side of my face that the lump is on. Not sure what to do as the pain is becoming much worse. Any idea?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that the lump is a enlarged lymph node. Lymph nodes normally enlarge in response to an infection in the area they are responsible for, however they can also become enlarged due to different causes.

Some other causes of enlarged lymph nodes would be an infection/inflammation of the node itself. This may be case for you because of the degree of pain that you are experiencing.

You should be assessed by your doctor, antibiotics would be necessary if the examination findings are in keeping with an infection.

I hope this helps
