Forehead Injury, Tenderness, Puffiness In Upper Eyelid, Bruising Below Eye, Normal Vision. Treatment?

I fell on Tuesday morning and hit my forehead (left side) against a wall. I went to the doctor immediately after, and she seemed to think everything was okay. My head was and is still tender. Today I woke up with a puffy upper eyelid , and some bruising below my left eye. The upper eyelid on the side toward my nose is reddish purple. There is no pain in my eye, and my vision is fine. Should I be concerned?

Hi Loubear,
Thanks for writing to us.
What you have mentioned sounds like a Haematoma, with ecchymosis ( purplish skin post trauma). Keep an eye on the vision, and with a dose of oral anti inflammatory drugs, your swelling should come down.if there is any open cuts, you need a prescribed antibiotic to avoid infection.

If your vision is dropping and your swelling is increasing in size in the next 3 days, the have a consultation.

Although its not an emergency, an eye examination is needed after your swelling to rule out any indirect injury to your inside layers of the eye. So take care.
