Good morning
Sorry to know about your ill health
First of all lets be very clear that if the diagnosis is crohn's disease then the medications should be life long for all practical purposes
The choice of medications depend of the extent of the disease (means involving large intestine or
small intestine or both, if so how much long), severity of the disease (only ulcers or with narrowing or with holes-called as fistula in medical language).
I would be wise if i could get these information.
Medications like
azathioprine carries slight long term risk of infection and cancer (blood or skin etc). Before starting therapy its very important to rule out active or latent or silent infections especially
tuberculosis,
hepatitis B, C HIV etc. After ruling out everything its prudent to receive certain vaccines typically for flu, hepatitisB,
hepatitis A, meningococcal and
pneumococcal vaccines (if not received in the recent past).
The dose of azathioprine is usually escalated depending on the total white cell count in the blood test till the point it reaches a dose of 2.5 mg/kg/day or a white cell count close to 4000/microlit which ever is earlier.
Vegaz is a pretty safe medication otherwise. Your doctor must have started you on combination medications probably to achieve better control of your disease.
Diet is pretty much normal, regular and balanced in most of the cases unless u have significant narrowing in your intestines manifested by stomach distension,
constipation, vomitings
Hope this information is valuable and helps in answering your questions
Please feel free to communicate for any future queries
