Fever, Nasal Congestion, Cough. Treated With Saline Solution. What Else Can Be Done?

Hi, My 7 year old son had a fever (101) 5 days ago and then developed nasal congestion and a cough the next day. His fever has reoccurred a few times since, a few hours at a time, never above 100.5. His cough is very persistent and nose is still congested. I do not give ibuprofen for mild fevers, I have treated his nose with saline solution which will only get brief relief.

Hello dear...
All these symptoms suggest that your child might be suffering from upper respiratory tract infection.
Cough can be attributed to post-nasal drip.
And recurrence of fever indicates that the causative organism of infection has not been eradicated completely.
The management consists of:
1. Drinking of warm fluids
2. Antihistamines to provide symptomatic relief from cold & cough.
3. Nasal decongestants to relieve obstruction.
4. Analgesics to take care of fever
5. Antibiotics depending upon culture & sensitivity reports to remove the causative organism
So...it will be better to consult the pediatrician & start treatment.
Wishing your son a speedy recovery.
Thanks & take care.
