Fever, Headache, Dizziness. Had Lumbar Puncture For Meningitis. History Of Liver Transplant. Feeling Tired. Reason?
23 yr old female s/p liver transplant at 5 months of age. Having fever ranging from 101 to 103 F and severe headache since Monday (now 4 days) have had lumbar puncture for meningitis (negative), no strep , no flu according to ER MD seen twice in past 4 days. Unable to stand up without becoming extemely dizzy. Feel extremely tired. No cough, or any other symptoms that coincide with the flu.
From your description you might be suffering from septicemia due to bacteria or viral or parasitic infection of blood (it might have originated from a particular loci which doctor has to investigate). First, you need to be admitted and some blood tests done. Blood tests to include are blood culture, CRP, ESR, thick blood film (if in zone of parasitic infections such as malaria), viral serology to rule out dengue fever etc, urinalysis (to rule out possible UTI), Widal test (rule out typhoid) and also be examined for lymph nodes painful swelling. Doctor will surely need to place on antipyretic medication such as paracetamol (orally or IV) and on broad spectrum antibiotics while searching for the cause. It will also be better if some tests to exclude tumors and autoimmune diseases.
If treatment is not initiated immediately, her situation might get worst as the infection proceeds.
Hope this helps
