Dear Ms Jacob
It is essential to understand that we need to treat the symptoms and identify the cause. Your concern for the fever
is very understandable, but it is important to identify the cause by further tests such as a urine examination. In elderly patients urine infections are very common and can be confirmed only by a urine examination.
The variation in the platelet readings is not worrisome and could just be a normal fluctuation or a change primarily due to the infection elsewhere in the body.
So for now I would suggest you to get a urine test done and also get a complete blood picture. In cases of infection the white blood cell
count or WBC count
would be more helpful to guide the treatment.
Wish your patient good health.
