Fell And Hit Chest Badly. Might Broken Rib. Taking Painkillers. Bed Rest? X Ray?
my daughter slipped and fell in the shower ,hitting her chest badly last thursday. on friday morning she was in acute pain and unable to move . the dr said maybe you have cracked or broken a rib but nothing can be done even if you get an xray , he prescribed painkillers . shes going for work but still has a dull pain. should she be in bed resting and should she get the xray ...
Hi, Thanks for your query, There is possibility that she might have broken her ribs. A baseline chest x-ray is good for the diagnosis as well as for records, so you must go for chest x-ray. Now regarding the management, rib fracture usually heals of its own and only supportive medical therapy is required like analgesics. Complications only need to be addressed aggressively. So your doctor is right here. Dull aching pain may last for some time and will increase on maneuvers like deep breathing, coughing, sneezing, movements etc. Strict rest is not needed if she is stable.
Best wishes
