Feeling Of Water Trapped In Ear, Slight Hearing Impairment After Holding The Nose And Blowing It. Help?

About four weeks ago my ear began to feel as though it had water in it. I am in the pool at up to 2 times a week so, I assumed this was pool water that was trapped. When I lay on my side, I could feel the water move and seemingly try to get out, but it remained trapped. Following a suggestion for this on an Internet discussion, I held my nose and blew it to try to unblock. Now I am left with what feels slight hearing imperfection in said ear. The sensation of water is less pronounced, yet still present. It is annoying and i would like to return to regular hearing. Can anyone please help???

ENT Specialist 's  Response
hello and welcome to HCM,

It is said that little knowledge is dangerous which i fear may be true in your case....When you felt a block or a feeling of water trapped in the ear then in all probably you would have had a mild infection of the drum which had caused the block.

This would have made the drum a little weak at which when you applied sudden pressure while blowing out, in all probability you might have ruptured the drum. This is what causing an impairment of hearing in your case.

In any ways you need to get an ENT consult and audiometric assessment.

You also need to keep the said ear clean and dry and avoid swimming for at least two weeks to two months until the lesion heals

take care and get well soon
