Feeling Like Something Stuck In Oesophagus. Is It Linseeds Lodged In The Trachea?

I have had a feeling that something is stuck in my oseophagus for the past week and am really worried. I have not got any acid reflux , don t feel ill and haven t got any heartburn . I can feel it at the front of my trachea and further down also in the middle of the chest . I eat a very healthy diet and only drink small amounts of alcohol and compete in athletics so am pretty fit. I take linseeds with liquid every day so am wondering if some have got lodged in my gullet, these seeds cling to a glass for dear life if you don t wash them off straight away.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to the platform of Health Care Magic.

Dear friend usually things do not get stuck in the esophagus.

Occasionally some pointed things can remain stuck in the glottis or esophagus or some times pointed partially unchewed eatables may scratch the mucus membrane of esophagus which can give such feeling.

Such problems can be easily diagnosed by the ENT surgeons with direct/indirect laryngoscopy or esophagoscopy.

Hope the query is answered

Thanks

Psychiatrist Dr. Anjana Rao Kavoor's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.

The oesophagus is made up of smooth muscles and food entering it is passed to the stomach after transit through oesophagus. This happens due to peristaltic activity. No food will remain stuck to oesophagus including linseeds.

Anything getting stuck in the trachea will cause coughing and forceful expulsion of the material. This is a natural protective reflex mechanism and prevents choking.

From above two illustrations, please be relaxed that there is very little chance of something like food or linseeds getting stuck in your oesophagus or trachea. You might be having a foreign body sensation in your throat region. Yo might be having a pharyngitis or laryngitis and this needs to be evaluated by an ENT doctor.

Hope this helps
