Five days ago my Dad had a quarter-sized tumor (pituitary macroadenoma)removed through nasal surgery. They had to use belly fat to plug the nose. Post-op, they completely over medicated him (actually admitted to it), to the point that we struggled to wake him up. After they got his pain and breathing under control, everything then was fine--at least on paper with his vitals. However, he's completely agitated, doesn't listen to instructions, is fidgety, makes mean comments (as though he has zero filter), and is almost child like and is self-absorbed (I'm not saying that in a mean way, it's just the easiest way to describe how he is acting). My dad has always been a really direct person, but this is really extreme. He basically got my mom to take him home after only 2 days post-op in the hospital. He's sleeping a lot, just starting to eat, but his mind is racing a mile a minute and his behavior is the same. There's no way she can leave him alone at home right now, but she has a job and I'm just worried.
Is this normal? Will he ever return to normal with his emotions? It's just really upsetting. I get that it's only been 5 days since major surgery, but is this normal? Will any medication help? He sees the endocrinologist later this week. GP did blood work today. All results normal, except we didn't get thyroid test back.
Thank you, any insight is much appreciated
