Hello,
Eye donation is one of the noble act which will help two corneal blind people to see, thereby gives vision to two blind people.
Eye donation is done only after death.
Prior registration that you are willing to donate the eyes after death at near by eye bank, but is not mandatory as consent from the near and dear ones of the deseased person is mandatory for eye collection.
After registration eye bank will issue a identity card which has to be carried always as this will help in knowing about the decision taken by a person in case of his or her death.
The near by eye bank as to be called within 6 hours of death of the person, team consisting of ophthalmologist will come to the place of death and collect eye ball. This is absolutely done at free of cost.
The collected eye ball is analyzed and investigated to rule out contrindications for eye transplantation and used for keratoplasty, a surgery involving the transplantation of cornea to the corneal blind person.
Thank you

welcome to healthcaremagic portal
eye donation is possible within 4-6 hrs. in summers and 8-10 hrs in winters in india as delay in donating the eye leads to spoiling of the donar tissue. Now we insist upon the next to kin to be aware of the steps to be taken at the time of grief in the family. There is a all india toll free no.1919 which when contacted will connect you to the local eye bank and the team from eye bank will visit and get the eye donation done.In the meanwhile the attendants are supposed to put a wet cotton on the eye and switch off the fan
