Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

Severe back pain radiating to the thighs could be suggestive of a spinal problem.
The possibilities are:

- Herniated spinal disc or disc prolapse
- Sciatica - condition caused by compression of a spinal nerve root in the lower back, often owing to degeneration of an intervertebral disk
- Spinal stenosis - condition in which the spinal canal narrows and compresses the spinal cord and nerves.
- Spondylitis - problem in the spinal vertebrae, resulting in irritation of the spinal nerve roots.

I would suggest that you have proper physical examination done by a doctor, and an X-ray of the spine, in order to determine the cause. The broken ribs which you had at the age of 11 are unlikely to be the cause of acute and severe back pain now. So, please see a doctor for further evaluation.

Wish you all the best.

Regards,
Dr. Jonas Sundarakumar
