Experiencing Stomach Issues, Feel Hungry, Eat Either Fruits Or Veggies Then Experience Gas And Burning Stomach. What Could Be Wrong?

Hello Samuel, My husband and I are experiencing similar stomach issues: we feel hungry, eat either fruits or veggies (are vegetarians), then experience gas and burning stomach. This has just been going on for the past three days (I felt this two days ago, him not at all - now he feels it today, mine is less so today). Since there are no nauseous feelings, we feel perplexed - especially at how hungry we can be and then how awful we feel after eating (burning and gaseous mostly). We are not on any medications , exercise daily, and eat extremely healthy foods in good combinations. We are guessing that it might be some kind of bug - what are your thoughts?

Gastroenterologist 's  Response
Hello to both of you, hope you will be fine soon. Having burning senstaion and gaseous distension suggest that you have dyspeptic symptoms acid peptic like. Also see if are having lactose intolerance ie intolerance to milk if you are taking milk or milk products too.If that is so please avoid milk or milk products as with age the lactase enzymes get decreased so if it is not absorbed it will be fermented by our normal bacteria flora in our gut which leads to production of ecess of gas. Also see if you are taking vegetables among broccoli family or cabbage as they also produce excess of gas in some. If it is not like this nd you are not having any alaraming features like loss of appetite, weight loss, or blood loss from gut then you simply require proton pump inhibitor like rabeprazole once a day 1/2 an hour before breakfast and some prokinetic agent like domperidone. If any alaram feature is present or your age is more than 40years then I will like to suggest that you may seek the opinion of Gastroenterologist who may ask you investigatios like USG abdomen for hepatobilliary system, blood investigations like liver function tests, lipid profile. Also he may ask you to undergo endoscopic examination. I hope this will solve your problem. Get well soon. Remain in contact.
