Experiencing Numbness And Difficulty In Hearing

I am having an issue with my left ear. For at least the past week, maybe a little longer, I have had very muffled hearing in my left ear. It's extremely bad, to the point I can really not hear much at all on that side. I find myself not even able to hear my husband when he is just a few feet away from me unless he speaks loudly. When I feel inside the ear to try and see if I can feel any wax build up or anything, the inside of the ear feels very numb.. It's a very odd sensation.. I did just get over the flue a couple weeks ago, but the ear issue did not happen until I had been well from that for a couple days.. I have not been around any unusually loud noises or anything like that.. I don't think there is water in there.. I can not hear it or feel it if there is.. I currently do not have insurance so I am trying to figure out if I need to make a trip to the ER or if this is something that will clear itself up.

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I read your query concerned about your hearing loss in left ear along with numbness. As you said that all these develop after your flu fever, this indicates that most likely you are having secretory otitis media left ear due to dysfunctioning or blocking of eustachian tube of left side in throat infection of flu.

I would like to suggest you to take-

1- Steam inhalation.

2- Anti histaminic and decongestant.

3- Tab paracetamol.

4- Antibiotic (preferably broad spectrum)

Probably above will help you otherwise consultation with ENT doctor will become necessary.

Regards.
