Experience Liquid Nasal Discharge During Night, Tasting Like Bile. Nothing Comes Out While Blowing Nose. Possible Cause?

For several weeks now I have regularly experienced being suddenly woken in my sleep by a short but pronounced liquid nasal discharge. It always wakes me, the discharge in process. It can happen several times in one night but then I might not experience it for a day or two. When I go to blow my nose there is nothing there but the discharge is all over my pillow. It sometimes leaves me with a taste of bile.

My question is: what is causing this and do I have anything to be worried about? Thanks

Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
I would come up with these possibilities for this nasal discharge with bile like taste, these includes.
1 Lung abscess with fungus infection , diagnosis can be confirmed by X ray chest .Usually a foul smelling discharge developed in the lungs and through nose it comes out.
2 Bronchiectasis , diagnosis can be confirmed by X ray chest .
3 Pleural effusion , most common cause , diagnosis can be confirmed by physical as well radiological examination.
In my opinion this nasal discharge is a cause of concern so consult a physician and get his opinion.
