Endovaginal Ultrasound Shows Mildly Hypoechoic And Vascular Endometrial Mass, Advised Pelvic MRI. Why Is It Needed ?
ok I am not sure if you received my question or not so I will resend this : Findings : Transadbdominal ultra sound: The uterus measures 6.8 x 4.4 x 5.1 cm (6.9 x 2.6 x 5cm on prior) and is anterverted in position. the endometrial stripe and adnexase are not well visualized. the bladder is normal and contour and wall thickness with a prevoid volume of 158 cc and post 0. Endovaginal ultrasound was performed for further evaluation.
Endovaginal ultrasound: the uterus measures 6.8 x 4.3 x 4.7 cm endovaginally with a few subcentimeter cervical nabothian cysts. the endometrial stripe cannot be clearly identified. there is a 1.7 x 1 x 1.9 cm mildly hyperchoic and mildy vascular endometrial mass. both ovaries are within normal limits in size with follicles and patent blood flow. the right ovary measures 3.5 x 1.5 x 2.5 cm (3.2 x 4.2 x 2.2 cm on prior) the left ovary measure 3.1 x 1.9 x 2.5 cm ( 2.7 x 1.5 x 3.4 cm on prior) no free fluid is seen in the cul-de-sac.
Impressions: a 1.7 x 1 x 1.9 cm endometrial mass/poly becoming apparent since 7/2006. the endometrial stripe measures 1.4 cm in AP dimensions prior. Pelvic MRI may be helpful for confirmation as well as to delineate extent of the disease. 2. Resolution of a 1.9 x 1.1 x 1.5 cm hemorrhagic cyst or ruptured corpus luteum in the right ovary since prior.
What does delineate mean??? and should I be concerned that they are sending me for an MRI?? At the moment I have bloating and since my ultra sound I am having bleeding...... all the things I read about endometrial stripe said something about cancer. and why would they send me for an MRI if I had an ultra sound? please explain all the findings in terms I can better understand . I am deaf in RL. thank you - YYYY@YYYY
Hi, Thanks for writing in. Delineate means to differentiate from its surroundings. That is it is not possible to see it clearly. No, you should not be very concerned as MRI is another test like ultrasound but with a better resolution. That is, you can see more clearly things which are not visible by ultrasound. Your bleeding may have caused by the abnormality which was detected on your ultrasound. These findings are not indicative of a cancer, rather a totally benign pathology like polyp may have caused it. I think a hysteroscopy & directed biopsy may prove more beneficial to you rather than MRI. You may discuss this with your doctor. Best regards.
