Early periods, prolonged menstrual cycle, stomach bloating, weight gain. Medical attention required?

Hi, I usually have a regular period every 28 days that last for 4-5 days. I am currently on my period but it came 5 days early and I m now into week two which is very unusual. I have a distended stomach , cramping and I have put on a bit of weight recently (but I put this down to Christmas excess). Is this something I should visit my doctor for?

Hello thanks for writing to us.
Irregular periods are usually due hormonal imbalance. A period early by 5 days is not an issue this usually happens, but prolonged bleeding for 15 days a matter of concern. Prolonged periods along with abdominal distension and cramps needs examination by a Doctor. Yes you should visit a doctor who may examine you and may advice you some investigations like abdominal ultra sound to establish cause of your symptoms and may prescribe you treatment for this prolong bleeding.
Hope this answers your question.
