Earlier Had Miscarriage. How Long Should I Wait Before Conceiving Again?

I am debating on when to conceive again after a miscarriage. I carried my first two babies to term, healthy. My third I lost on April 10th. I was 21 weeks along. It started about four days earlier, I was dilated to 4 cm and membrane bulging. I had her the next day naturally with no complications. Placenta came out fine etc...I got my period about 6 weeks later. I keep trying to do research on the best time to conceive again and its mostly research after a full term baby. There was a good study done by Dr. Love in Scottland about conceiving after miscarriages. I have seen three doctors, two high risk and one family. They responses of wait time ranges from 3 months to a year. Surprised its so all over the board and really want to do this right but also anxious to complete my family. They believed I lost my third child do to IC. I would need a cerclage for the next pregnancy.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

After natural miscarriage, you can plan for next pregnancy after 3 months with commencement of regular period. During this time, you must take folic acid supplements.

Please consult with your gynecologist for overall check-up before conceiving. Cervical cerclage may be needed to prevent incompetence.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. S Patra
