Dull Pain In Outer Ear, Red And Hot. Father Had Perichondritis Of Pinna. Treatment For Permanent Solution?

I have a dull pain/pins and needles in my outer ear. There is no swelling but occasionally the ear gets red and feels hot. My father had something similar a few years back and, after a number of misdiagnoses it turned out to be perichondritis of the pinna. By the time it was diagnosed correctly the cartilage in my father's ear had already thickened. He was prescribed antibiotics for several months which seem to work but the condition returned after 6 months, What is my best course of action to get a sound diagnosis and what course of treatment is likely to work on a permanent basis?

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M. for query.

As you have given family history of perichondritis of ear pinna in your father and your are also having the similar features so we should think about it also.

Since you are having dull pain in ear and your pinna of ear is red and hot all these features are in favor of inflammatory pathology of ear pinna. So you should do-

1- Blood sugar ( F & PP )

2- Serum uric acid.

Beside this if local lesion on ear pinna should be thoroughly cared to avoid infection.

If any abnormality in above investigation is reported tan that should be take care of and following treatment is to be started just now-

1- Antibiotics.

2- Anti inflammatory having trypsin & chymotripsin.

3- Don't apply any ointment or do any massage.

I hope this will help you.

Regards.
