Dull Constant Pain Behind Lower Right Ribs, Wont Let To Sleep, Take A Deep Breath. Is It Gastric ?

55 yr old female
I woke up about 4am with a dull constant pain behind my lower right ribs. I laid there for an hour before I got up, it wouldn't let me sleep. I went to urinate thinking that was it, it wasn't, and I noticed it hurt more when I moved, and nearly dropped me to my knees when I took a deep breath. I just want to know if it's gas....
Thank you, AAAA

Hello, AAAA,
Thanks for contacting HCM with your question.
You describe your pain as constant and dull and
always in the same location beneath your right ribs.
There is the liver and gallbladder. There is the covering
of the lower part of the lung , the pleura. Then there are
nerves in the groove of the ribs. Any of these , if inflamed,
can give you that kind of pain. Trapped gas in general can
be relieved by changing position and is usually not constant.
You need to get a sonogram of the liver and gallbladder to rule
out gallstones. Get a chest x-ray to see if ther is any fluid in the
right lung lower part. Get a complete blood count to see if
there are signs of infection. If all negative , you can try taking
some anti-inflammatory over the counter medication like
Ibuprofen or Naproxen as per directions with food for 4-5 days
and see if it improves.
Wish you well.
