Done With Uterus Scan. What Does This Report Indicate?
Can you pls answer my query. My sister first scan report went like this ." Uterus is gravid and shows a well defined imprauterine gestational fac like structure. Yolk sac and a defined fetal pole with cardiac activity not visualised at present" . Its also mentioned that she is 4 weeks 3 days pregnant. What does this mean? Is there any problem? Should she wait for her next scan? pls advice

A gravid uterus is a uterus during pregnancy, just thought you should know that.
Cardiac activity means that the baby's heart beating, this isnt visualized because the baby's heart is only formed by the 6th week of pregnancy.
A well defined fetal pole is also a good thing, because it means there is no miscarriage.
As such as far as I can tell there is no problem with your sister's pregnancy at the moment.
And yes you can relax till her next ultrasound.
Also if there was a problem, the doctor would've told you the problem right there and then, so dont worry. I am assuming this is the first pregnancy in the family, hence you are so worried and stressed. Just relax and tell your sister to relax and enjoy her pregnancy.

The scan report describes the findings in an early intrauterine pregnancy. Initially, the USG machine may not be able to demonstrate the smaller contents within the gestational sac. The yolk sac usually becomes visible by 5 and a half weeks and the fetus by 6 weeks. Demonstrable cardiac activity is usually seen by 5-6 weeks of gestation. Thus, there is no cause of worry in the present scan and you should wait for a follow up scan in 1-2 weeks time to demonstrate the live fetus.
