Done Surgery To Replace Ankle. X-ray Shows Pins Pushing Into Bone And Cartilage. Leg Pain. What To Do?

One year ago in March I was in a car accident. I had to have surgery to replace my ankle with titanium & pins. When I went to my 2 wk check up(and the get the stitches out of both inside and outside of my left ankle. Upon doing so the doctor showed me my post-op surgery x-ray and he stated verbatim " I am not obligated to tell you this but as a physician, I feel in necessary for you to know that 3 of the (I believe 5 or 8) screws/pins that were ALL supposed to be 3 mm were 3 times too big and are pushing into bone and cartilage. Since this I haven't returned to this surgeon and I have a VERY hard time with my leg. Im a very petite, tiny woman now overweight due to restrictions. I asked a lawyer (the only 1 of MANY I tried that would even talk2 me)... He said I have to prove that in the surgery room the Surgeon would have HAD to have been able to NOTICE a difference.I have worked in the medical field periodically and common sense tells me you would HAVE to notice triple sizes! It wasn't 3 mm bigger it was 9 mm's compared to the other 3 mm's. PLEASE HELP! I am in pain every single day now! I can't find help or answers! I'm at a loss and I don't know what to do at this point.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi

I think they did open reduction and internal fixation to your broken ankle, not ankle replacement surgery as you have said above, am I right?

I can not comment on your x-ray without seeing it unfortunately.

you need to ask for 2nd opinion from another orthopaedic surgeon in different hospital. if you are in UK your GP should be able to arrange it for you.
