Done Nasal Septoplasty, Scraping Of Cartilage, Stent Placed. Thrush, Pain On Throat. Prescribed Nystatin. Fast Relief?

32 year old male had nasal septoplasty surgery and scraping of cartilage and bone on both sides of nose. Stents put in both sides. Have to breathe only through mouth. Now have thrush in back of throat. Incredibly painful and only passage for breathing. Havent slept in 2 days. Dr called in Nystatin to gargle then swallow...is there anything else I can do for relief now. Seeing doctor in 5 hours just don't know if I can wait

Hi there,

Thanks for writing in.

I think it would be better if your treating doctor took a look at it and decided. If you are not responding to nystatin, the doctor might prescribe oral antifungals like fluconazole or clotrimazole.

Other measures you could try are warm saline gargles (swish and spit) .
It might help if you up your intake of curd which has the good bacteria (lactobacilli) which might help restore the normal bacterial flora.

Hope this helps.

Wish you a speedy recovery.

Regards,
Dr. Divya Kuttikrishnan.
