Done Colonoscopy. Barium Study Recommended. History Of Pelvic And Small Bowel Adhesions. Related?
Yes please. I recently had an EGD and Colonoscopy done. However, the Colonoscopy was incomplete. The exent of my evaluation was to my sigmoid colon . It was stated in my post procedural report that further advancement was not achieved despite change in patient positioning, manual pressure, and switch to a pediatric colonoscope. So a virtual colonoscopy was recommened or Barium Study. Could that possible be related to my history of pelvic and small bowel adhesions secondary to post laps/transverse laminectomies and what do those additional recommended tests entail? Also please if I may one more qyestion. A biopsy was done on the distal portion of my esophagus which indicated squamous and grandular mucosa with minimal nonspecific chronic inflammation. Negative for intestinal metaplasia and no dysplasia. I am assuming that means no signs of precancerous or premalignant changes throughout the scope. Is this correct. I have no hx if Barrett s Esophagus or H. Pylori. But I have suffered from GERD since 1983 still present treated by diet and anticholenergic medication.
Hi and welcome to HCM. Thanks for the query. I dont think that virtual colonoscopy can show colon good enough as colonocopy so it can be done but results are not so sensitive as colonocopy is. If there is suspect of some malignant disease in colon then colonoscopy should be done completely. second, yes it means that there is no premalignant lesion and chronic esophagitis is just sign of esophagus irritation by certain food ,drinks or smoking. it should be frequently checked up and thats it. Wish you good health. Regards
