Done Abdominal Hysterectomy. Will It Pain To Lift Heavy Objects?

What kind of pain will I have if I've done any damage lifting more than I should 5 weeks after a total abdominal hysterectomy? I have a straight up incision because they also had to remove a 5+ lb fibroid in my uterus as part of the surgery. It was a bag of groceries that I put onto a cart with wheels that was heavier than I wanted to lift but I was reshuffling so they wouldn't fall off my cart. I dragged the bottom bag back onto the cart, but lifted the 2nd bag on top of the bottom bag after that. Thankfully someone came along and gave me a ride home, so I didn't have to wheel the whole effort home again, as originally planned. There were 3 small cans of veggies, a sort of heavy purse and a shirt in the top bag, but the heavier bag I shuffled along the floor with a tug to get back onto the cart, had a 1.75 ltr jug of OJ, a handful of small to med potatoes, a head of leaf lettuce and a bunch of celery. I'm in a little more abdominal pain today than I was before I did all this yesterday and there is a little sharp pain near my incision, when I lean forward from the couch to pick a cup off the coffee table.

Hi,
Thanks for the query.

After undergoing major surgery like hysterectomy you should take at-least two months gap before starting strenuous work.
As you are having pain, better to get examined once.
So consult gynecologist once, get examined and go for ultrasound.
If everything is normal, no need to worry. Analgesics are sufficient in dealing with pain.
Better to avoid lifting weights in future.

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.

After abdominal surgery you need to take rest for minimum2 months, you should avoid exercise which cause abdominal muscles to contract like lifting heavy weights, bending etc.
You need to give rest to healing wound.
As your pain has increased better get your suture wound examined by a surgeon for any gaping.

Consult your doctor for examination and management.
Hope I answered your question. Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries.
Wish you good health. Take
care.
