Hi there Roopa. I take the liberty to answer your question as a dermatologist on 2 counts..1. I once was in a similar predicament while handling a patient who was diagnosed to have had rabies & succumbed to his ailment in my student days' & understand your anxiety 2. Dermatologist's dictum: clean with soap & water immediately (assuming you had done this, no need to worry whatsoever). In addition, given the age of your neice (7) & assuming she has taken all her regular basic vaccination shots, she would have recieved her DPT dse around age 5 & as such no TT inj. et al is necessary before age 10. Sadly some of our colleagues tend to scare patients unwittingly...DO NOT worry..You have absolutely Nothing to fear. Continue to take your Rabies shots & dont look over your shoulder. If it was a domestic pet, you may want to keep an eye on the dog & may contact your vet in this regard. Regds & Stay safe..Dr Praveen Rodrigues MD Dermatologist, Bangalore
