Does Wrapped Umbilical Cord Around The Baby Cause Any Problem?

I am 25 years old and 25 weeks pregnant with my first baby. Today I had my ultrasound and we saw that the umbilical cord is wrapped in 2 folds around the baby s neck and 1 fold around his abdomen. The doctor said it could be dangerous. Is it possible that the baby can choke himself? Is there a chance that the cord will unfold itself? Thank you very much. Looking forward to your answer.

Hello, thank you for writing in to HCM. The chances of baby choking on it right now are few as the foetus size is small and circulation too is through the cord. Problems may arise, however if the cord gets compressed. The good news is that there are chances for the cord to unfold itself as the baby is still small and may turn more easily. But thats just a matter of chance and no surety can be given. Close and frequent monitoring of the fetus is required in your case. All the best.
