Does Weight Gain With No Diet Change Indicate Hypothyroidism
Hi, I have had a 34lb weight gain in less than a year. No other symptoms. No diet changes. I have actually been more active the past year. My free T4 was .77 and TSH was 2.290. Could this be hypothyroidism and could there be any other hormonal imbalances causing this? (no increased stress, no increased eating, etc)

hi. Your TSH is within normal limits. and your wt gain is not because of hypothyroidism. Other disease which can cause increase wt gain is cushing's syndrome. Cushing's syndrome is due to prolonged exposure to inappropriately high levels of the hormone cortisol. Symptoms include rapid weight gain, particularly of the trunk and face with sparing of the limbs (central obesity). Other are excess sweating, thinning of the skin , purple or red striae on the trunk, buttocks, arms, legs, or breasts, proximal muscle weakness and hirsutism, baldness and/or extremely dry and brittle hair. Other symptoms include polyuria, persistent hypertensiondiabetes mellitus. kindly consult endocrinologist. take care
