Does Vaginal Candida Infection During Pregnancy Affect The Fetus?

Good afternoon. I'm 35 yo and I'm 4+5 pregnant. Just after conceiving I travelled to china and suffered by vaginal candida. From 5th to 10th day after conceiving they treated me with a tampax soaked in hidro-alcoholic propolis and fresh garlic in my vagina. Could this harm my baby? Thanks.

Hello and I hope I can help you today.

Candida infections are common during pregnancy. There is no evidence to suggest that a treatment such as the one you used, which does not contain any drugs or medications, is harmful during pregnancy.

So in summary there is no reason to worry and after the first trimester, even antifungal creams and pills are safe to use if you get another candida infection.

I hope I answered your question adequately and best of luck for the remainder of your pregnancy.

Sincerely, Dr. Brown
