Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Just wondering. .. I use viagra sometimes. I noticed after a few hours after injesting the pill my sinuses clog up sometimes which makes it very hard to breathe through my nose. If I have a cold and already can t breathe through my nose, I guess it would be wise to stay away from using until my cold is gone and I am healthier no?
Yes, it can cause sinus congestion. Viagra (Sildenafil) is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE-5) inhibitor commonly used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. In addition to dizziness and headache (due to fall in BP), it can cause runny nose, stuffy nose, altered sense of smell or blocked nose as its side effects.
The nasal congestion and disturbances with smell should go away once the drug is out of your system. So you don't have to worry, taking nasal decongestant drops (Pseudoephedrine) might help or avoid taking Viagra till you recover from the nasal congestion.
Hope these answer your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.
