Does Toprol Or Effient Cause Sexual Problem?
I had a heart attack 4 months ago. They put two stents in because I had 99% blockage in widow maker. Sent me home with Toprol and Effient. And automatically put me on Crestor. It caused problems it walk muscle ache. wanted to put me on Lepitor. Even though I don t have Cholestrol problem. Said it was a preventative. I am not taking any statin drugs since it is so controversial. I will continue to take the other two drugs prescribed. I have notice I am having problems sexually. Trying to find out which drug is causing problem and wanted to know what harmful effects these drugs may cause in the long run.

I understand your concern. Impotence is a known side effect of Toprol but it can also occur due to various reasons including diseases of the blood vessels. Since you have disease of the coronary arteries, it is probable that the blood vessels of your penis is also involved and that may be one of the reasons of the sexual difficulty. Toprol belongs to a class of medicines called beta blockers which are known to protect the heart from a second heart attack. If you discontinue the medicine as the suspected cause of your sexual difficulty, you are running a risk in my opinion. Please discuss with your cardiologist before you make a decision.
