Does Taking Wine Interferes With The Action Of Levaquin During Post Operation Of Sigmoid Colectomy?

I am 1 week post op from laparoscopic sigmoid colectomy and am taking levaquin. I would very much like to have a glass of wine. I am usually a one-two glass of wine daily person but have not had a glass of wine since April 6 and would like to have one today. Would that be a problem given that I am taking levaquin

Hi & Welcome.
Yes, it may reduce the efficacy of Levaquin if taken together.

Most antibiotics including Levaquin actually lose their efficacy when taken along with alcohol or alcohol containing beverages like wine.

Besides, Levaquin and wine when taken together can cause similar side effects, such as stomach upset, dizziness and drowsiness.

Combining Levaquin and wine can increase these side effects.

It can also delay the recovery process following sigmoid colectomy.

So, I would advise you to avoid wine until you finish the course of prescribed Levaquin and if feeling better.

Hope this answers your query.

Kindly rate the answer if you are convinced.
