Does Taking Birth Control Pill Cause Elevated Liver Enzymes?

Hi, I had been taken off my birth control pill from the specialist I was seeing for elevated liver enzymes.. does that really affect that? He didnt say it was because of the pills, but he took me off to see if in several months the levels would drop.

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Oral contraceptive pills are not commonly cause liver damage and elevation of liver enzymes.
But in some patients they do affect liver and cause elevated liver enzymes.
This is seen especially in females who are obese, drink alcohol and taking other hepatotoxic drugs.
So better to stop oral contraceptive pills and see if your liver enzymes are decreasing or not. If they are decreasing then contraceptive pills are the cause for this. But if liver enzymes are not decreasing then you will need liver Biopsy to identify the cause.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
