Does Taking Norditropin For Height Growth Help Even If He Is Not Deficient ?
Our son is in the 5th percentile for his height (1.75 of growth in each of the last two years). He has been taking Norditropin since 11/20/2013. He grew 1.25 in the first five weeks. He had to stop the drug for three weeks in order to perform stem tests ordered by the insurance company. During that three weeks there was no gain in height. He is now back on the drug, but we were just informed that the stem test came back normal and we are appealing the decline status by the insurance. My question is why would he grow at that rate with the growth hormone if he is not deficient? Could there be an underlying cause?
Hi, You havent mentioned your son's age. An endocrinologist need a number of information before prescribing Growrth hormone treatment. He need parent's height, and a good history. He need to check for growrh hormone levels and a stiulation test and a number of other tests like bone age, thyroid function tets etc. Sometimes an MRI of pituitary is required.
Some kids have a problem called idiopathic short stature and the reason behind this is not clear. All the above tests can be normal in them. MAny of them do respond to growth hormone treatment. You must meet the treating endocrinologist so that he can explain things more clearly
