Does Smoking Post Tonsillectomy Increase The Chances Of Cancer?

Hello, I had a tonsillectomy about 3 weeks ago and Im a smoker. I stopped smoking for about 2 weeks but then I went out and smoked a few, and now Im back to a few a day (4 max). Does this increase the risks of things like cancer as my throat is still healing? My throat does feel abit odd after smoking this might be cause its not finished to heal completely yet

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand..

As per your complain smoking post tonsillectomy will delay the healing and will cause inflammation leading to pain and can also lead to infection in throat as well as increase mucous production..
You should completely stop smoking as it can be very fatal and although it may not cause cancer but in long term can be a causative factor for cancer..
You should take Nicotine Replacement Therapy like nicotine patches and chewing gums if you cannot resist from smoking..
You can do warm saline gargles and maintain a good oral hygiene and take medications as advised by the treating surgeon for faster healing..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
