Does Shingles Cause Blotches All Over The Back?

my 97 year old neighbor, suddenly has what started w/red blotches all over her back, now is light purple. There are no sores, scabs & it doesn t hurt or itch. Her doctor is treating her for shingles, but I had shingles and I m sure that s not the problem. Any ideas??? It is from the top of her back to down under her buttocks.

Hello and thank you for your question. I agree with you that it does not sound like shingles. Shingles usually only appear on one side of the body. They can appear on both sides in people whose immune system is not working properly and that could be the case in someone that is 97. However, they are almost always painful. It is hard to say what it could be without seeing it. I hope it resolves soon.
