Does Seizure Cause Metallic Taste In The Mouth?

I had a seizure a week and a half ago. Since then I have had a metallic taste in my mouth and now my lips are going numb and I am nauseous. The ER docs said it was my tramadol that caused my seizure so they took me off. I had no warning I was going to have a seizure so I'm scared now that I am going o have another one because Im starting to feel sick.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have symptoms of metallic taste in mouth after anxiety or seizure attack which is mainly due to Tramadol which caused increased level of anxiety in you and due to that you got epileptic attack and there must be increased grinding of teeth.

Due to increased grinding there is loss of zinc and a zinc deficiency can cause too much copper to build especially if your diet is rich in copper or if you take birth control pills or hormone replacement. Sometimes grinding on some amalgam fillings which could give you a metallic taste.

Need not to panic about anything. Visit neurologist once and get it examined properly. Start with antidepressant medication or measures to prevent epileptic attack again. Till then take sugar free candies for mouth taste. Have yogurt as probiotic. You are on less chances of seizure attack again as you stopped Tramadol.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain seizure and metallic taste in mouth can be a side effect of Tramadol which is a Narcotic painkiller and used to relieve moderate to severe pain..

In case you had an allergic reaction the symptoms occurred due to it and mostly after the withdrawal of drug the symptoms subside and does not re appear until you are exposed to the allergen again..

You need not to worry as the feeling of sickness can be due to some other reason and more of a psychological fear of getting seizures..

Do not worry and just relax..

Hope this information helps..
