Does Reducing Estradiol Dosage Cause Mood Swings?

Hi, is reducing estradiol by 1mg drop from 2 mg cause moodiness, face breaking out and the list goes on, I have been on hrt for 15 years and always at 2 mg and now I am not feeling good was fine before the reduction. I am 46 years old and thought you did not have to reduce until mid fifties. I am happy at 2 mg is it up to us as patients to decide what dose we are comfortable with or up to the dr.?

HRT is used to treat symptoms of menopause. It involves either giving estrogen and progesteron combination therapy or estrogen alone therapy. I believe you are only receiving estrogen only therapy. Earlier you were on Medium dose estradiol (2mg) therapy but now your physician has decreased the dose to 1mg (Low dose Therapy). Certainly decreasing the dose of estradiol can result in symptoms similar to menopause like mood swings, hot flashes, vaginal dryness etc. However, estrogen based therapy increases the chances of breast cancer, heart attack and strokes. I would suggest you to contact your physician to know the reason for decreasing the dose and to convey your complains of return of menopausal symptoms.
