Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Reduced Platelet Count While Having Dengue Cause Extreme Fatigue?
My sister was diagnosed with Dengue on 10 September. Her platelet count was 203,000 that day. It dipped to 160,000 the following day and today it was recorded 86,000. She does not have fever or any other symptom of dengue except fatigue and weakness. She is rather feeling much better today compared to previous days of illness. Do you have any specific suggestion?
Fatigue and weakness occurs in dengue mainly because of the fluid loss. So my first suggestion is to have adequate fluid intake and taking rest. You need to watch out for danger signals like bleeding or red spots appearing on the skin. If any of these occurs, you need to report to a hospital soon. If your sister is able to take foods and fluids orally without any vomiting, you can manage with adequate fluid and food intake along with rest in the home itself. Only use paracetamol for pain; avoid any other painkillers. Releat the platelet count. If it's increasing and reaches normal level and symptoms reduces, then no need to worry. Hope this helps. Thanks.
