Does Radiation Treatment Cause Hives?

Hi there! At the end of March, i had a small radiation treatment. Two days after my thyrogene injectionsand my iodine pill, i had hives come out. Could my treatment have caused these hives? Theyy are very painful and extremely itchy. Only benadryl and aerius seem to help. I had an RAI treatment back in september 2014 for my thyroid cancer. Martine

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . Hives is body's response to any allergen . So it could be possible that medication you are taking or radiation therapy is causative factor in your case .

I would suggest you to consult dermatologist for proper examination and to find out exact cause . Doctor may prescribe steroid medication .

For now what you can do is give cold compresses several times a day , take herbal tea or green tea 2-3 times a day and avoid stress .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
