Does Prolonged Bleeding Indicate Menopause?

I am a 48 yr old female and had some questions about menopause. I have been told that females in my family go thru this early. My last period started on Oct 30th and has not stopped yet. it is not heavy just a low steady flow for the last 12 days. i am usually very regular and only bleed for about 3-4 days. Thank you for your help.

IT COULD ONE PATTERN of the ensuing menopause. Usually you should have menopause at the same age like your mom and grandma.

Irregular and prolonged bleeding might suggest infection or malignancy.

in your case please confirm the menopause status by doing serum FSH/LH levels.

if the bleeding continues and is worrisome/unusual for your pattern you should go for a PAP test that will say what is happening!

all the best..........
