Does Pain In Area Near Vulva Indicate Genital Herpes?

I have no blisters or sores, but i'm afraid I have a strain of genital herpes. I haven't had intercourse in months and when I did condoms were always used. However, I did have unprotected oral sex. I sometimes have a skin pain in a very small area on the right side of my vulva. It will last for a day or two, then goes away and will sometimes reappear a week later. Does this sound like genital herpes?

Hello. Thank you for writing to us healthcaremagic

Herpes classically presents with erosions/ sores which are painful.
There may be prodromal symptoms such as perineal/ pelvic pain but that would be followed by characteristic sores of herpes.
Since you never noticed any sores it is therefore unlikely that this pain has anything to do with herpes.
I would like to rule out a possibility of an enlarged and inflammed bartholin glands.
The bartholin glands are located on each side of the vaginal opening and secrete fluid that lubricate the vagina.
Sometimes the openings of these glands become obstructed, causing fluid to back up into the gland. The result is a nagging pain, which may come and go.
You can take sitz bath(soaking the area in warm water) for 2-3 days along with pain-killers. Sitz bath is usually effective.
If the condition does not improve as expected I suggest you to visit a doctor for a review of the diagnosis

Regards
