Does Metoprolol Raises Blood Sugar?

Hi, My name is Patti. I have been taking metoprolol 12.5 milligrams in the a.m. and p.m. for 7 months for one bout of atrial fibrillation and high blood pressure. I have been very healthy up to this point and I weigh 128 pounds (5'4"). My blood tests are now showing that I have pre diabetes blood glucose levels. My Glycohomoglobin (A1C) is 5.9 and average glucose (eAG) is 123. Is it possible that the metoporol is raising my blood sugar? I believe I read that somewhere. also, I seem to have developed a very low grade cough for the last 6 months, that comes on only once every day or 2 and exhibited by only 2 to 3 coughs and sometimes the very smallest amt of clear mucus. I am a non smoker. I do not have allergies or asthma. could these be side effects of the metoprololmetotal all?

Diabetologist 's  Response
Dear sir I understand your concern.I am very happy you are this conscientious because having a well controlled blood sugar is very important in preventing the onset of diabetic complications.i my opinion metaprolol is a wonderful drug in atrial fibrillation.regarding metaprolol and diabetes,if a patient is diabetic the onset of symptoms for low sugar will be delayed by use of metoprolol but even that is only minimal effect.let me make you clear it will never make you diabetic.
there are many benefits like good cardiovascular protection by controlling rate of heart.
there is lots of research telling that people who are on metoprolol have very good out come even they develop heart attack.so relax
regarding your hba1c%it s only a fine increase by diet and daily exersise it will come down drastically
I suppose I have given the desired response if you have any other query please write back.
Otherwise please accept & rate my answer. I will appreciate your review about my answer.
Best Regards.
