Does Menstrual Cycle Start Upon Taking Birth Control Pills?

I started birth control about 1 week ago to get rid of cramps and regulate my periods because I would get them every two weeks. Is it possible to start your period from using birth control because at first I thought I was spotting, but as days went on I have gotten blood. I used a regular tampon today and it was full of blood after 8 hours. I have been spotting for 5 days now and each day is getting more period like. Other than that there are no cramps or any period like symptoms. I m not really sure what is happening and an explanation would be great. I am leaving for a trip tomorrow and would really perfer to not be spotting or on my period. Is there any way to stop this?

HI
Well come to HCM
I really appreciate your concern, if you are on hormone therapy then irregular menses is very common symptoms with this, it may not be corrected unless you stop this or find out the underlying cause of spotting, you have not mentioned your age here it matters the great, hope this information helps.
