Does Levitiracetem Intake Hinder Pregnancy?

i'm taking 750mg levitiracetem twice daily and a combination of rifampicin 600mg and isoniazid 300 mg. i was diagnosed with brain tuberculoma in 2010 november and am taking the above medications since then. are these medications a hinderance to pregnancy?

Hello,
Yes. It is better to avoid pregnancy while on this medication since some are to be avoided in pregnancy. While INH or Isoniazid has not been shown to cause any birth defects, Rifampicin use has been associated with cleft palate, spina bifida etc. It has been assigned to category C drug in pregnancy. Leviteracetam has been shown to cause very minimal teratogenic effects. Therefore, I would ask to use contraception until needed and try to conceive only after a clearance is obtained from your doctor. Hope this helps.
