Does Irregularity In Periods Indicate Ectopic Pregnancy?
I have had my period this month then 2 week long irregular bleeds and they have both been different to my normal period. I am on the mini (single hormone) pill and I take Amitriptyline for nerve pain (MS). I have been taking this for 4 months. I am worried about eptopic pregnancy?? Should I see my doctor??
Hi, I have one through your question. The irregular bleeding you are having may be due to the progesterone pill (mini pill) you are taking as it has the side-effect of bleeding in between the periods. Amitriptyline does not cause any alteration in the periods. Mini pills also increase the incidence of ectopic pregnancy. The symptoms of ectopic pregnancy are pain in lower abdomen, bleeding or spotting and positive pregnancy test. I would suggest you to get an urine pregnancy done. If it is positive, then consult an OBGYN immediately. If is negative, then it is most probably due to mini pills, still I would advise you to get examined by an OBGYN to rule out any local pathology in uterus, cervix or vagina. Hope you found this answer helpful. Wishing you good health.
