Does Intake Of Morning After Pill Cause Delayed Periods?

I had sex on the 13th day of my period and he ejaculated inside me twice. I took a morning after pill within 12-20 hours of intercourse. I was supposed to get my period on 19th January, and usually I get it 2-3 days early but this time I haven't got my period yet. I am very tensed because I am just in my second year of college. Is there any chance that I might be pregnant?

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

Yes intake of morning after pill can cause delayed periods. It is a very common side effect of the pill. Morning after pill disrupts your normal menstrual cycle & cause delayed periods. your period may be delayed for 1-2 cycles.
Actually Morning after pill is an emergency contraceptive pill & it contains contain Levonorgestrol 1.5 mg. It prevents pregnancy by inhibiting implantation of fertilized egg on the uterus. It is 95% successful if taken within 24 hours of having sex. As you have taken the pill within 24 hours of having sex, you should relax as pregnancy possibility is very less.
Next time use condom or regular contraceptive pill as method of contraception in future. They have better success rate & have fewer side effects also.

Do a pregnancy test if your period goes delayed by more than 2 weeks, to rule-out possibility of pregnancy.

Refer to a gynaecologist
Hope this information helps
Good luck
