Does Intake Of Metronidazole Cause Blackish Red Bleeding During Periods?

I recently been told of having trichomonas. For the last 6 days I been taking metronidazole. These last 3 day out of the 6 taking the metronidazole, I started my menstrual cycle, and my color was black red. Should I be going back for my follow up appointment?

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.

No metronidazole doesn't cause blackish red bleeding during periods. Coincidently your periods came just after starting metronidazole. When menstrual bleeding is slowly released it could turn to blackish red & there is nothing abnormal in that.
Trichomonas infection is common in females & it could easily be treated with metronidazole. Infection is serious only if it causes yellow-green, itchy, frothy, foul-smelling ("fishy" smell) vaginal discharge, lower abdominal & severe vaginal itching.

So don't worry take the medicine as directed by your gynaecologist

Hope this information helps
