Does Intake Of Cashews Cause Changes In Stool Colour?

My gp suggested I add cashews to my diet for help in controlling cholesterol numbers, I think. The last few days, having changed brands of cashews and eating larger amounts, I ve noticed a difference in stool color from dark brown to light brown. Are the nuts to blame?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome to HCM.
I appreciate your concern for the change of stool color following excessive intake of cashew nuts.

Yes, intake of cashew can change the stool color.

Cashew contains fats (lipids) which are normally digested by the enzymes present in bile and pancreatic secretions. However when consumed in larger amounts this extra fat or lipid is not digested resulting in loss of fat through feces (steatorrhea) causing change in stool color.

Hope this answers your query.
Avoid using excess of cashews.
